Vision Hires

Faculty Positions for Fall 2018

The University of Northern Iowa has recently adopted a bold vision for its future centered on a compelling and holistic approach to student success. The recently adopted 2017-2022 Vision statement asserts that UNI "will be a diverse and inclusive campus community that provides an engaged education empowering students to lead locally and globally."

We are seeking faculty across disciplines, departments, and colleges to work together to build our national prominence in any of four distinct but interrelated areas:

  • engaged learning,
  • diversity and
    inclusion,
  • sustainability, and
  • community engagement.

The unifying goal of our strategic plan, student success, focuses on enhancing intentional and developmental engaged and applied learning experiences. Supporting goal one, diversity and inclusion, advances the creation of "a campus culture that reflects and values the evolving diversity of society and promotes inclusion." Supporting goal two, campus vitality, centers on enhancing a "campus life experience which is both environmentally and fiscally responsible." Finally, supporting goal three, community engagement, seeks to "build external relationships that enhance local and global experiences and contribute to the cultural and economic vitality of the Cedar Valley and Iowa."

The University of Northern Iowa’s Fall 2018 Vision Hires may have teaching, research, and service assignments, as well as possibly course release, stipends, or other incentives to advance any of the four elements of the university's Vision. Our goal is to achieve national prominence by elevating engaged learning experiences that are intentional and developmental and connected to the curriculum; to become more diverse and to weave that diversity into the fabric of our campus culture, including our teaching and learning, research, scholarship, and creative activity, and campus events and activities; to advance sustainability in the curriculum and across campus in order to demonstrate our commitment to a just and interdependent future; and to further strengthen our commitment to and relationship with the local and global community. In addition to holding responsibilities in their home department, these faculty will form a cohort who will work side by side with existing faculty to advance key aspects of our university vision.
