Annual Reflection & Goals
The Annual Reflection & Goals document has been improved for utilization in Fall 2025.
As part of the annual evaluation process, all faculty members should submit reflections and goals based on their teaching, research, and service, as applicable. Ideally, the process of reflection and setting goals should take place at or around the time when faculty submit U-FAR materials. The submission of U-FAR materials catalyzes reflection on the previous year, while looking ahead to set goals for the upcoming academic year.
For action case faculty (i.e., tenure-track, probationary, seeking promotion, and comprehensive post-tenure), it is recommended that department heads schedule and meet with these faculty members in the fall as they prepare their U-FAR materials (due October 15).
For non-action case faculty (i.e., tenured, term, and renewable beyond year 3, summary comprehensive), it is recommended that department heads schedule and meet with these faculty members in the spring as part of their evaluation and as they look toward the current evaluation period.
Department Heads may choose to use the Annual Reflection & Goals template (linked below) or an internal departmental document that meets the following components:
- Annual goals in teaching, research, and service
- Reflections on progress toward goals
- Courses Taught
- Achievements and accomplishments in teaching
- Reflections on student assessments, including how assessments may inform course development
- Scholarship accomplishments
- References to evidence uploaded in SharePoint
It is the Department Head’s discretion to require faculty use of the Annual Reflection & Goals template below (automatically received in the department through JotForm) or use an internal document and process for submission.
